Jakoubek's story
Jakoubek is our two-year-old son who suffered a cervical spinal cord injury in April. There is currently no effective treatment for this type of injury.
The only way to improve his condition is intensive rehabilitation, so we are raising funds for exercise in a specialized pediatric neuroclinic after his release from the hospital. There Jakoubek could receive the best care, but this rehabilitation is long term (months and years) and therefore very costly.
The attending physician initially gave him no chance of ever breathing on his own without a ventilator, let alone moving in any way. But Jakoubek is a fighter and three months after the accident he is breathing on his own with the help of a tracheostomy, and even partially moves his left hand and his little legs respond to tickling.

Consequences of spinal cord injury
A spinal cord injury, technically a “spinal cord lesion”, is a devastating damage to some part of the spinal cord or the nerves at the end of it. It is one of the most severe injuries ever, both physically and mentally.
The degree of damage can be complete or only partial. In either case, there are irreversible changes that will always affect the subsequent life of the person so affected.
What Jakoubek needs
Jakoubek’s rehabilitation is long-term (months and years) and therefore very costly.
